Understanding Your DNA Test Results
Your results will include two numbers (alleles) for each STR, representing the repeats inherited from each parent. These alleles may be identical or different at each marker. By comparing these numbers between the tested grandparent and grandchild, a statistical analysis determines the likelihood of a biological relationship.
- Biologically related grandparent-grandchild pairs typically have a grandparentage index greater than 1.0.
- The higher the index value above 1.0, the stronger the likelihood of a biological relationship.
- Individuals who are not biologically related as grandparent and grandchild usually have an index value below 1.0.
