Confirm a biological grandparent-grandchild relationship with our DNA Grandparent Test

This test is a reliable way to determine if an alleged grandparent is biologically related to a grandchild when the parent in question is unavailable for testing.

Easily collect a painless mouth swab at home and send it to our accredited lab for analysis. Your results will be securely available online.

Understanding Your DNA Test Results

Your results will include two numbers (alleles) for each STR, representing the repeats inherited from each parent. These alleles may be identical or different at each marker. By comparing these numbers between the tested grandparent and grandchild, a statistical analysis determines the likelihood of a biological relationship.

  • Biologically related grandparent-grandchild pairs typically have a grandparentage index greater than 1.0.
  • The higher the index value above 1.0, the stronger the likelihood of a biological relationship.
  • Individuals who are not biologically related as grandparent and grandchild usually have an index value below 1.0.

No problem! The kit can be split, with sample collection components sent separately to each address. Each component is individually barcoded to ensure accurate testing once all samples arrive at the lab.

To request a split kit, simply add the following note in the “Order Notes” box during checkout: “Please split kit.” Be sure to include the names and addresses for each recipient, such as:

  • Send the Alleged Grandparent’s portion to… (specify name and address).
  • Send the Child’s portion to… (specify name and address).

DNA test kits can be kept at room temperature both before and after sample collection.

No, the test kits do not expire and can be stored indefinitely before sample collection. However, once samples are collected, they should be sent for testing within three months.
