Find out if you are the biological aunt or uncle of a child.
Our DNA Aunt/Uncle Test (Private Home Kit) is an effective way to determine if an alleged aunt or uncle is biologically related to a niece or nephew when the parent(s) are unavailable for testing.
If the parent(s) are available for testing, we recommend the DNA Paternity or Maternity Test instead. However, in cases where the parents are missing or deceased, the DNA Aunt/Uncle Test is the next best option for exploring the relationship between potential aunts and uncles.

Understanding Your DNA Test Results
Your results will show two numbers (alleles) that represent the number of repeats inherited from each parent at each STR. These alleles may be identical or different at each marker. The allele numbers are compared between the alleged aunt/uncle and the child, and a statistical analysis is performed based on the match type typically seen in biologically related aunt/uncle and nephew/niece pairs, producing a “kinship index.”
- Biologically related aunt/uncle and nephew/niece pairs typically have a kinship index greater than 1.0.
- The higher the kinship index above 1.0, the greater the likelihood of a biological relationship.
- Individuals who are not biologically related will usually have a kinship index below 1.0.

No problem! The kit can be split, with sample collection components sent separately to each address. Each component is individually barcoded to ensure accurate testing once all samples arrive at the lab.
To request a split kit, simply add the following note in the “Order Notes” box during checkout: “Please split kit.” Be sure to include the names and addresses for each recipient, such as:
- Send the Alleged Grandparent’s portion to… (specify name and address).
- Send the Child’s portion to… (specify name and address).
DNA test kits can be kept at room temperature both before and after sample collection.
No, the test kits do not expire and can be stored indefinitely before sample collection. However, once samples are collected, they should be sent for testing within three months.
The DNA sample is obtained by gently swabbing the inside of the cheek for 30 seconds. This process is quick, painless, and completely safe.
